And So It Begins…

Dear Delegates, Faculty Advisors, and friends of WorldMUN,

It’s been only a few months since we left Vancouver, Canada, with our five days of experiences, memories, and lifelong friends. As anyone who has attended World Model United Nations before can attest, WorldMUN is a one-of-a-kind intellectual and social conference that brings together the greatest assortment of young minds from around the globe to engage in cultural exchange. Last year, we boasted nearly 2,000 delegates from 65+ countries, a true testament to the unparalleled international experience that awaits delegates and advisors at WorldMUN. In the time since, a new team has been selected here at Harvard, and planning for the next conference is underway. In the past weeks, the Harvard team has been deliberating over the bids received for the upcoming year’s conference and we are incredibly excited to announce that World Model United Nations 2013 will be held in Melbourne, Australia!

WorldMUN 2012 brought our 21st conference to new heights, and WorldMUN 2013 promises an even more extraordinary experience. Voted The Economist’s “World’s Most Livable City” in 2011, Melbourne combines the natural beauty of Australia’s southeastern coast with the lively colors of the city’s nightlife and culture. Melbourne 2013 brings the WorldMUN Spirit to an entirely new continent, and will set the bar even higher for the World Championship of Model UN. We are thrilled and honored to partner with Monash University and RMIT University, and we warmly invite you to join us in March 2013 for the most memorable WorldMUN experience yet.

Over the next few weeks, more information about WorldMUN 2013 Melbourne (including registration and committee information) will be posted on our website.

We look forward to seeing you all on March 18, 2013 in vibrant Melbourne, Australia!

We resolve to make a difference.

Vancouver Secretariat! Part 8

We’ve saved the best for last. Introducing your Secretary-General, the woman who will shape WorldMUN 2012 to be the best MUN experience of your life, Kathleen Tang!

Hello WorldMUNers!

Nearly four years ago, I joined an amazing organization called WorldMUN and that decision has largely shaped my college experience and world-view. This year I am extremely excited, as the Secretary-General of the twenty-first conference, to welcome you to WorldMUN 2012 in beautiful Vancouver, Canada. I cannot convey enough how delighted I am to host WorldMUN, for the first time ever, in North America, where I have spent most of my life.

For those of you who are new to WorldMUN, the conference is more than just your average Model UN conference. Instead it is a bond that brings together young, brilliant minds from across 60+ nations to a single forum where they debate, collaborate, and party for what becomes one of the most memorable weeks of the year. And of course for those of you who have attended WorldMUN in the past, you already know how amazing the conference is and I look forward to reuniting with you in March.

If you need any help during the process of registering for WorldMUN, the other members of Secretariat and I are here to help you out, so please reach out to us. I look forward to getting to know all of you in these months ahead of us, and though there is much to do, WorldMUN is ultimately about what all the people involved make of it, so let us make this year’s WorldMUN the best one yet!

We’re up to the really important people now. Introducing your second-in-command, Samir Patel! He was USG ECOSOCs for WorldMUN 2011, and for 2012, he will be your Director-General!

Advisors, Delegates, and Friends,

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 21st Session of World Model United Nations 2011! My name is Samir Patel and I am the Director-General for the Conference. It will be the culmination of a long, tiring, and busy period of work, but one which will be worth it as we really enjoy seeing so many individuals from a multitude of backgrounds take part in what truly embodies a global simulation of MUN. As Director-General I will be responsible for overseeing the budgets and logistics for the Conference, in addition to assisting with Administrative and Financial matters (especially emails). Doubtless you will see me running around Conference making sure everything is running smoothly, but please feel free to stop me and say hello. Meeting the delegates is much more fun than fixing the air-conditioning!

At Harvard, I am a senior mechanical engineer with a strong interest in international relations and the impact of technology. When I am not in the laboratory working on robotic insect wings, I enjoy reading about everything from new global energy initiatives to William and Kate’s wedding. Outside of MUN, I am a huge soccer enthusiast (Glory Glory Man United)—- I love to talk about it, play it, watch it, what have you! Additionally, I enjoy listening to heavy metal/instrumental/hip-hop, working out, cooking fusion/exotic foods, and traveling to faraway places! Once again, welcome to WorldMUN—-I truly cannot wait to meet you!

Introducing your final substantive Under-Secretary-General, Aparajita Tripathi, USG of Specialized Agencies!

Dear delegates and faculty advisors,

Welcome to WorldMUN 2012! My name is Aparajita Tripathi, and I am honoured to be serving as this year’s Under-Secretary-General of the most innovative organ at conference, the Specialized Agencies. I am a junior at Harvard, pursuing interdisciplinary studies in political and social theory, government, and history. I cherish many fond memories of WorldMUN Singapore, but this upcoming conference is particularly special to me, as it is a bit of a homecoming. A native of Toronto, I am very excited to venture for the first time to Canada’s west coast and explore all that beautiful Vancouver has to offer. However, since leaving Canada, I have called a small suburb of New York home. Outside of Model UN, I enjoy reading and following hockey and tennis. If you are someone who thrives in crisis situations and consistently thinks outside the box, then the Specialized Agencies eagerly await you! I hope to be in touch with you even before we all descend upon Vancouver, so please do not hesitate to reach out to me via email.

Vancouver Secretariat! Part 5

Our next Secretariat member is Anna Trowbridge, Under-Secretary-General of Economic and Social Committees!

Hey WorldMUNers,

My name is Anna Trowbridge, and I’m a rising senior at Harvard, studying Government and Arabic. It is my distinct honor and pleasure to spend my last spring break at college serving as Under-Secretary General for the ECOSOCs at WorldMUN 2012. This is only my second year attending WorldMUN (I chaired the Organization of the Islamic Conference in 2011), but I wish that I had another four years to dedicate to it! I’ve been participating in MUN since I was fourteen, but I’ve never experienced anything close to the community and spirit that is WorldMUN. I am particularly excited because as WorldMUN turns 21, I’ll be turning 22, and there is nowhere I’d rather be for my birthday than with such a wonderful group of people.  Please don’t hesitate to contact me at my Harvard email (atrowbr@fas.harvard.edu)!
